Weekly Wrap-Up

These are the books that I read for the week of May of 20th through the 26th. I read a total of 9 books which brings my yearly reading total to 168 books. These books totaled 2,875 pages. Yes, most of these books are middle grade. Makes for some quick reads.

The Otherwoods By: Justine Pucella Winans

I gave this book 4 stars. People say River Rydell is a “chosen one.” He is able to see monsters and travel to the terrifying spirit world called the Otherwoods. There are no such things as monsters anymore until something happens. No one believes him until his friend Avery is Kidnapped by monsters and dragged to the Otherwoods. River must face his fears to rescue Avery.

Three Strike Summer by: Skyler Schrempp

I gave this book 4 stars. Gloria and her family are picking peaches at the Santa Ana Holdsten Peach Orchard. Her family lost their farm, and this is how they live now. There are rules that will be followed, or you will be escorted off the property by the law. Gloria would rather be playing baseball than picking peaches. The problem is one of two things. She is a girl and there is no organizing allowed, even if it is a sport.

Here is Brigham By: S. Dilworth Young

I gave this book 4 stars. This book is about Brigham Young and his involvement with beginning of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is also about the church’s history.

Hooky By: Miriam Bonastre Tur

I gave this web toon 4 stars. This is about twin witches. One who’s magic doesn’t go the way she wants and the other who can do almost any spell perfect the first time. Their parents are putting together a resistance group to overthrow the king.

Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus and Momentous Events in the life of a Cactus By: Dusti Bowling.

I gave both books 4 stars. They are about a girl called Aven who has moved to Arizona, and she isn’t liking it. Her old place knew her from the beginning and know who she is and how she does things. You see, Aven was born without arms, and she has to use her feet to do things. It is a little odd to see her using her feet to eat and write. She does make a couple of friends because they are outcast also. Connor who has ticks and Zion because he is a little overweight. They encourage each other and stand up for each other. I love this friendship. Aven also has great parents.

The Oddmire: Deepest, Darkest Book 3 By: William Ritter

I gave this book 4 stars. Cole and Tinn are twins in away. Cole is human and Tinn is a goblin changeling. The world is ending, and they need to figure out how to stop it.

When Cloud Touch Us By: Thanhha Lai

I gave this book 4 stars. This book is told in verse. They are moving again, and the school year isn’t over yet. Mom thinks there are better options in Texas than Alabama. Ha isn’t so sure.

The Scarlet Alchemist By: Kylie Lee Baker

I gave this book 3 stars. Zulan dreams of becoming a royal alchemist to help her family. But she is trapped and practicing an illegal form of Alchemy to keep her family fed. One day she has a chance to complete the exams against the best alchemists. Is she able to get a good enough score to train and be able to be a royal alchemist in the end.
